Open data, attribution & licensing
PCBWiki’s on-site part metadata (part numbers, packages, descriptions, and datasheet links) is derived from engineering sources with different licensing and attribution terms. The source-specific obligations that apply to those materials are described below.
Sources
- KiCad official symbol libraries : licensed CC-BY-SA 4.0. Part names, package/footprint mappings, descriptions, and datasheet URLs in our dataset derive from these libraries.
- Common Parts Library (Octopart) : licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. Used to corroborate manufacturers and packages for common production parts.
- Wikidata : CC0. Manufacturer and part-family entity data.
- Manufacturer datasheets: every specification on a part page is checked against the manufacturer’s datasheet, and datasheets are linked on the manufacturer’s own site, never copied or re-hosted here.
On-site metadata and future exports
PCBWiki’s on-site part metadata carries the applicable CC BY-SA 4.0 attribution and share-alike obligations described above. A downloadable PCBWiki dataset export is not currently available. If PCBWiki publishes an export, it will include the applicable upstream attribution and license materials and identify the sources and modifications needed for compliant reuse.
Editorial content on part pages (design guidance, gotcha write-ups, FAQs) is © PCBWiki. Quote freely with attribution.
